PHOENIX (Jan. 27, 2012) — A Tucson resident who wishes to remain anonymous has come forward to claim the $1 million second prize jackpot from the new $2 Powerball.

The $1 million winning $2 Powerball ticket was drawn last Saturday, January 21, and was sold at a Fry’s Food Store in Tucson, located at 555 E. Grant Rd. The winning numbers are 12 - 24 - 43 - 44 - 45 PB 7.

The winner was thrilled to learn that he was Arizona’s first million-dollar, second prize winner with the new $2 Powerball. Even though he was excited with the news, the winner said “health is more important than money.”

“It was great to learn that someone stepped forward to claim the second prize $2 Powerball jackpot and become Arizona’s newest millionaire,” said Karen Bach, assistant director of budget, products and communications for the Arizona Lottery. “This big win will dramatically impact the player’s life, and I can’t think of a better way for him to start 2012.”

The new $2 Powerball game offers many appealing features to players, including better overall odds and jackpots that grow bigger faster. The starting jackpot doubled from $20 million to $40 million and the second prize for matching all five numbers, without the Powerball, increased from $200,000 to $1 million.

PHOENIX (Jan. 24, 2012) — The Arizona Lottery recently announced its mid-year results with sales currently pacing a record-breaking 8.8% percent over fiscal year 2011.

As a result of the record year-to-date Lottery sales, the State of Arizona has received almost $65 million in net proceeds. The Lottery dollars were allocated to fund a wide variety of public projects and programs throughout Arizona that fall under four important pillars: education, health & public welfare, economic & business development, and the environment.

“We could not be more proud in being able to report these strong sales figures, especially during our 30th anniversary year,” said Jeff Hatch-Miller, executive director of the Arizona Lottery. “The Lottery’s tremendous success is a testament to staying focused on our business plan, which identifies products, marketing, and sales tools that result in revenue that directly impacts and improves the quality of life for Arizona residents.”

In addition to the Arizona Lottery’s sizable contribution to the State this year, over $183 million has been paid out to players in the form of prizes. Lottery retailers large and small throughout the state also have benefitted from the record Lottery sales, earning more than $19 million in commissions year-to-date, which many of them rely upon to support their businesses.

“We are confident that our strong sales trend will continue through the end of the year as we work aggressively toward meeting 2012 goals,” said Hatch-Miller. “Our focus is on introducing new, innovative products, building partnerships and using technology that attracts players and delivers sound results for Arizona Lottery beneficiaries throughout the state. We have built a strategic foundation through research and best practices to exceed industry standards and expect to report record-breaking end-of-year results as well.”

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns invite Facebook fans to participate in the third annual Facebook Night, brought to you by the Arizona Lottery, when the team hosts the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, January 28. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

The special night will feature discounted tickets on Suns.com/facebook as well as many exclusive activities, including early entry into US Airways Center to watch the Suns’ warm up and a private postgame Q&A with Suns’ forward Channing Frye.

PHOENIX (Jan. 3, 2012) — The Arizona Lottery announced today that Millionaire Raffle tickets are sold out, one day before ticket sales were scheduled to end on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at midnight.

The 300,000 Millionaire Raffle tickets were sold in sequential order, and sales stopped when the final ticket was purchased today at a Circle K located at 4001 E. Chandler Blvd. in Phoenix. The limited number of tickets sold provides players with the best odds of winning $1 million or one of 1,100 other cash prizes.

“Millionaire Raffle is one of our most popular seasonal games, so it is not a surprise that tickets sold out early like they did last year,” said Kim McGlothlen, director of marketing and advertising for the Arizona Lottery. “We are very excited to meet the winners when they claim their prizes at the winner appreciation event on Friday, Jan. 6, after the Final Draw.”

If It’s a Crossword Game, It’s Got to be Good

A Bellemont, Arizona woman, who loves any kind of crossword Scratchers, purchased one $5 Cosmic Crossword and received a check for $50,000 – a pretty nice return on her investment. The winning ticket was purchased from an Instant Ticket Vending Machine located in the Pilot Travel Center, 12500 W. I-40, Bellemont.  This store is the one where she usually purchases her tickets.

She scratched the ticket at home and then signed it as soon as she saw that it looked like a winner.  But just to be on the safe side, she also had her parents check it.  She waited to redeem the ticket until her mother could go with her. 

She only plays Scratchers in the $2 - $5 price range, purchasing one every day.  She does not play any of the draw games. In the meantime, she plans to save the money for her children’s future.
