Arizonans Win $200,000 Powerball Prize and The Pick Jackpot

Winning tickets purchased in Mesa and Sun City

PHOENIX (Sept. 17, 2009) – Although the $95 million Powerball jackpot was not hit yesterday, Arizonans are faring well today after one Powerball ticket matched all five white ball numbers for the $200,000 second prize.

In addition, Arizona’s own jackpot draw game, The Pick, was hit last night. The $1.8 million jackpot goes to the player who purchased a ticket at the Fry’s at 10660 N.W. Grand Ave., in Sun City. The winning numbers were 3, 8, 12, 16, 20 and 34.

The second prize Powerball ticket was purchased in Mesa at the Fry’s at 5941 E. McKellips Road. The winning Powerball numbers were 17, 37, 40, 51, 56, and the Powerball was 25. The winning Arizona ticket was one of six nationwide that matched all five white ball numbers for the second prize.

Because the Powerball was not hit, the estimated jackpot for Saturday’s drawing grows to $111 million.

“The Arizona Lottery is thrilled to have not one, but two, big winners from Arizona after last night’s Powerball and The Pick drawings,” said Jeff Hatch-Miller, executive director for the Arizona Lottery. “I encourage everyone who participated in Wednesday’s drawing to check their tickets because they may hold either a $200,000 Powerball prize or $1.8 million The Pick jackpot.”

Drawings for Powerball and The Pick are broadcast during the 10 p.m. news on Saturdays and Wednesdays on Channel 15 (ABC) in Phoenix, Channel 13 (CBS) in Tucson, and in Spanish on Univision Arizona. Powerball is played in 30 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
