PHOENIX (Sept. 24, 2013) – The Arizona Lottery announces that the winners of the $1.4 million The Pick jackpot from the draw on Sept. 21 have come forward.
Gary and Nancy Alberti of Phoenix claimed their prize at the Phoenix Lottery office. The winning ticket was purchased at the Fry’s Marketplace located at 3511 W. Peoria Ave. in Phoenix. The couple chose the cash option of $823,529.40, before taxes.
Nancy purchased five Quick Pick® tickets for The Pick from the supermarket. She checked the tickets Sunday morning and found that the first line had all six matching numbers. After rechecking the ticket in disbelief, she woke her husband by yelling,“We won the Lottery!”
“Gary didn’t want me to go to the store because he thought I looked tired,” Nancy said. “I’m glad I didn’t listen to him, because we wouldn’t have won!”
Nancy is retired and Gary, who works in sales, had planned to retire next year and now plans to retire early. They are going to pay off bills and share their winnings with their children and grandchildren.
“Nancy and Gary could not be more grateful and excited about their win,” said Karen Bach, director of budget, products and communications for the Arizona Lottery. “It’s always a thrill to present checks to winners of Arizona’s local jackpot game, The Pick.”
Players must be 21 years or older to purchase or redeem tickets. Winners have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize at an Arizona Lottery office or by mail. Overall odds vary by game. All sales are final. In accordance with the ADA, these materials may be made available in an alternative format. Gambling Problem? Call 1.800.NEXT STEP (1-800-639-8783). Please Play Responsibly™.
