Arizona Powerball Player Wins $200,000 Prize

Mesa retailer sells second prize ticket from Saturday’s Powerball drawing; ticket still not claimed

PHOENIX (Jan. 4, 2010) — Just two days into the New Year, a Powerball player in Arizona matched all five white ball numbers from Saturday’s drawing to win the second prize of $200,000.

The ticket for the Jan. 2 drawing was purchased at the Fry’s Food Store at 554 W. Baseline Road in Mesa. The winning numbers were 3, 7, 23, 27, 42, and the Powerball was 37. The ticket purchased in Mesa was one of six nationwide to win the second prize. A ticket purchased in Arkansas matched all six numbers for the $25 million jackpot.

“The Arizona Lottery is delighted to have one of the six second-prize winners from Saturday’s drawing,” said Jeff Hatch-Miller, executive director for the Arizona Lottery. “I urge anyone who purchased their ticket at the Fry’s Food Store in Mesa to check their ticket to see if they are the winner.”

Because the Powerball was hit Saturday, the jackpot returns to $20 million for Wednesday’s drawing.

The drawings are broadcast during the 10 p.m. news on Channel 15 (ABC) in Phoenix, Channel 13 (CBS) in Tucson, and in Spanish on Univision. Powerball is played in 30 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Players can also check their numbers by logging onto arizonalottery.com or by calling the winning numbers hotlines at 480-829-PICK in Phoenix and 1-800-499-3798 in all other Arizona areas.

You must be at least 21 to purchase or redeem tickets. The Arizona Lottery reminds everyone to please play responsibly.
