Arizona Lottery and Recycle Your Bicycle Team Up to Give Hundreds of Foster Children Scarce Bikes During COVID-19 Pandemic
PHOENIX – The Arizona Lottery is partnering with the Arizona Association of Foster and Adoptive Parents (AZAFAP) to build and deliver 300 new bicycles, complete with helmets, to foster children in Maricopa County. This Saturday, July 25th, these families will arrive at Hillsong Church, in Mesa, where each foster child will receive their new bike and helmet, along with the freedom, fun and physical activity that go with them.

“The Arizona Lottery exists to do good in our communities. Supporting our most vulnerable, our foster children, has huge impact for Arizona.,” said Gregg Edgar, Executive Director of the Arizona Lottery. “These bikes will give these kids, who have lost so much, a sense of normalcy and enhance their childhood development for years to come. We are proud to assist Recycle Your Bicycle as we fulfill our mission to make Arizona a better place to live, work and play.”
The Recycle Your Bicycle (RYB) Program is part of AZAFAP, providing bicycles to children and youth in foster care. Over the ten-year history of the program, RYB has provided more than 10,000 bicycles for foster families. For children and youth in foster care, bikes provide freedom, exercise, transportation to work and school, and a chance to have fun.
“This year Recycle Your Bicycle took an extra meaningful turn with the onset of COVID-19,” said Joe Jacober, Bike Coordinator for Recycle Your Bicycle. “Thanks to the support of the Arizona Lottery, we gave hundreds of bikes to children in foster care with no other way to receive a bike. We are grateful to the AZ Lottery and all Arizonans for their support of children in foster care.”
